Casablanca Car Rental for a Two Week Morocco Itinerary
Planning a Casablanca car rental for a two week Morocco itinerary? A 14-day road trip from Casablanca can cover Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara, Aït Ben Haddou and Marrakech. That is about 2,000 km of driving, and a rental car makes it far easier.
This guide comes from Carrent Casablanca, a local agency in Maarif. You will get a realistic 14-day route, real prices, the right car for each leg, and honest advice on when not to keep the car.
Should You Rent a Car in Casablanca for 14 Days?
Yes, if you want to visit Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Merzouga, the Dades Valley and Aït Ben Haddou on your own schedule. A compact car such as the Dacia Logan handles every paved route in this plan. Pick up at Mohammed V Airport (CMN) or in Maarif, and add a one-way drop-off in Marrakech if you do not want to drive back.
| Decision | Our short answer |
| Rental length | 14 days for flexibility, 8–10 days if you use trains in big cities |
| Best pickup | CMN Airport if you want to start driving, Maarif if you stay in Casablanca first |
| Best car | Dacia Logan or Sandero for couples, Duster or Arkana for more space |
| Do you need a 4×4? | No, not for the standard paved route |
| Return option | Back to Casablanca, or one-way to Marrakech or Fes |
| Total driving | About 2,000 km core route, up to about 2,500 km with extras |
Is Renting a Car in Casablanca Worth It for Two Weeks?
It depends on your route. A car is a big win outside the cities. Inside the old medinas, it just sits in a car park.
When a rental car makes the trip easier
- You want to stop at viewpoints, villages and kasbahs without a timetable.
- You travel with luggage, children or older relatives.
- You plan to visit Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Merzouga or the Dades Valley, where trains do not go.
- You want to split long drives over two days instead of booking fixed transfers.
When you can skip the car for part of the trip
- You will spend three or more days in Fes or Marrakech medinas.
- You want to avoid Casablanca and Rabat city traffic.
- You prefer a guided desert tour from Marrakech or Fes.
A mixed plan is common. Many travellers take the train between Casablanca, Rabat and Fes, then rent only for the Sahara and Atlas section. Our guide Is it worth renting a car for a Morocco trip? goes deeper on that choice.
Rental length by traveller type
| Traveller | Suggested rental | Typical route |
| First-time couple | 10–12 days | Casablanca → Fes → Sahara → Marrakech |
| Family with luggage | 14 days | Full Casablanca loop |
| Desert-focused trip | 5–7 days | Fes or Marrakech → Merzouga → Dades |
| Business plus leisure | 7–10 days | Casablanca → Rabat → Fes → Marrakech |
| Slow traveller | 14 days, fewer stops | Imperial cities plus one long stay |

| 14 | Marrakech → Casablanca (CMN) | 270 | 3–3.5 h | Return |
Total: about 2,000 km on the core route. Add Volubilis and Essaouira and you reach roughly 2,500 km.
Day 1: Arrive at CMN and collect your car
Land, meet our driver at Terminal 1 arrivals, and check the car together. Then drive to your Casablanca hotel. If you land late or feel tired, do not push on to Rabat. Rest first.
Need the full airport process? See our Casablanca airport car rental guide.
Day 2: Casablanca to Rabat
This is an easy first drive. Visit the Hassan II Mosque in the morning, then take the A1 motorway to Rabat.
- See: Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower, Mohammed V Mausoleum.
- Park: outside the old medina and walk in.
More details in Casablanca to Rabat and our day trip by rental car guide.
Day 3: Rabat to Chefchaouen
Treat this as a travel day. The road climbs into the Rif Mountains, so arrive before dark. Chefchaouen’s blue medina is for walking. Leave the car in a car park outside the walls and carry your bags to the riad.
Plan this leg with car rental Casablanca to Chefchaouen.
Day 4: Chefchaouen to Fes
About four hours through green hills. Aim to reach Fes with daylight left. Ask your riad where to park before you arrive. Many riads in Fes el-Bali cannot be reached by car.
Staying longer in Fes? Our car rental in Fes page and long-term rental in Fes explain local options.

Day 5: Explore Fes, with an optional Volubilis trip
Fes el-Bali is a walking city. Leave the car parked and explore the tanneries, madrasas and souks on foot.
Want a car day? Drive to Volubilis and Meknes (about 140 km round trip). This is one of the best reasons to keep a rental, because public transport makes this loop slow.
Day 6: Fes to Midelt via Ifrane and Azrou
This day splits the long desert approach. Stop in Ifrane and the Azrou cedar forest, then continue to Midelt for the night. Do not try to reach Merzouga from Fes in one push.
Day 7: Midelt to Merzouga
The road runs through the Ziz Valley. Fill the tank whenever you pass a station, because stations are fewer in the south. Aim to arrive before sunset.
For route details, read driving from Casablanca to the Sahara Desert.
Day 8: Merzouga and Erg Chebbi
Park the rental at your guesthouse or camp meeting point. Then go into the dunes with a camel or a local 4×4 transfer.
Do not drive a rental car onto sand or rough tracks. Dune access is arranged by the camp.
Day 9: Merzouga to Todra Gorge and Dades Valley
This is a long day with stops. If you feel tired, pick one gorge as your main stop and keep the other optional. The Dades road has tight hairpins, so drive slowly.
Day 10: Dades to Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou
A kasbah day. Stop at Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate, then reach Aït Ben Haddou in the afternoon. Sunset light on the ksar is worth the timing.
Day 11: Aït Ben Haddou to Marrakech over Tizi n’Tichka
The pass tops out at about 2,260 m. Start early, check weather in winter, and avoid driving it in the dark. Read best roads to drive in Morocco before you go.
Day 12: Marrakech on foot
Park at a guarded car park near the medina gates. Spend the day at Jemaa el-Fnaa, the souks and the gardens. The car stays still.
Day 13: Rest day or Essaouira
Take a calm day in Marrakech, or drive about 175 km to Essaouira and back. Do not add Essaouira if you already feel tired. It adds a long day before your flight.
Day 14: Return to Casablanca
Drive back on the A7 and return the car at CMN or Maarif. Leave a generous buffer before your flight. If your flight is early, return to Casablanca the day before. See Casablanca to Marrakech by car for the road, tolls and stops.
Prefer not to loop back? Choose one-way and drop the car in Marrakech. We cover that below.
Which Route Fits You? Four Two-Week Options
You do not need to see everything. Pick the route that matches your energy and interests.
| Route | Best for | Main stops | Trade-off |
| Grand loop (above) | First visit, Sahara lovers | Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga, Marrakech | Many long drives |
| Imperial cities | Culture and history | Rabat, Meknes, Fes, Marrakech | No desert |
| Atlantic coast | Beaches and seafood | El Jadida, Essaouira, Agadir | Less mountain scenery |
| Marrakech and south | Short drives | Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Dades, Merzouga | Skips the north |
Cut stops if you feel rushed. Drop Chefchaouen to save a day. Skip Essaouira if you fly from Casablanca. Choose one gorge instead of two.
Going to the coast instead? See Casablanca to Agadir road trip and car rental in Tangier if you start or end in the north.
Best Car to Rent in Casablanca for a Two Week Morocco Road Trip
The best car is the one that fits your bags, passengers and route. For most couples and small families, an economy sedan or hatchback is enough. All of our cars are 2022–2025 models.
Can a Dacia Logan handle a two-week Morocco road trip?
Yes, on paved roads. The Dacia Logan is one of the most requested cars for this kind of trip. Here is why:
- 510-litre boot. That fits about 4–5 full suitcases without folding seats.
- Low fuel use. Diesel uses about 4.4 L/100 km, and a tank can reach roughly 900 km.
- Parts everywhere. It is built in Morocco, so most garages know it.
- Safe basics. 6 airbags, ABS, ESP and Isofix points for child seats.
- Easy parking. It is small enough for Maarif, Anfa and city car parks.
Be realistic about its limits. The Logan has 95–100 hp, so use lower gears on Tizi n’Tichka and keep a steady pace. It is not an off-road car. Manual is standard, and automatic is available on request, so confirm it when you book.
Logan vs other cars for this route
| Car | Body | Boot | Gearbox | Best for |
| Dacia Logan | Sedan | 510 L | Manual, auto on request | Luggage on a budget |
| Dacia Sandero | Hatchback | Up to 410 L | Manual / auto | Lowest cost, easy parking |
| Renault Clio 5 | Hatchback | 391 L | Manual / auto | Comfort, bigger screen |
| Peugeot 208 | Hatchback | Compact | Check at booking | Couples, light bags |
| Dacia Duster | Compact SUV | 472 L | Automatic | Mountain roads, space |
| Renault Arkana | Compact SUV | Check at booking | Check at booking | Comfort on long days |
| Hyundai Tucson | Mid SUV | Large | Automatic | Families |
Boot sizes for the Logan, Sandero, Clio and Duster come from our own model pages. Always confirm the exact car and gearbox on WhatsApp before you pay.
Do you need a 4×4 in Morocco?
Usually no. Every road in the 14-day plan above is paved. A 4×4 only matters if you plan off-road tracks, and desert camps arrange their own transfers. Need one anyway? See location 4×4 Maroc.
The Duster is a good middle ground. It sits higher and gives more confidence on mountain roads.
Automatic or manual?
Automatic is easier in traffic and on hairpins. Manual is usually cheaper and easier to find. See our automatic car rental in Casablanca page, then tell us your preference at booking.
What if you travel with five or more people?
Check luggage first. Seven seats do not mean seven large suitcases fit. Look at our 7 seater car rental Casablanca page, the 7 seater van rental for families guide and the Hyundai Staria. For smaller families, read best SUV to rent in Casablanca for families.

How Much Does a Two-Week Car Rental in Casablanca Cost?
The rental price is only one part of your trip cost. Add fuel, tolls, parking and any one-way fee. Here is how to estimate each.
Rental prices from our price guide
All rates include insurance and unlimited mileage. Our homepage price guide shows these category rates:
| Category | 1 day | 1 week | 14 days (2 × weekly) | 1 month |
| Economy | 150 MAD | 900 MAD | about 1,800 MAD | 3,200 MAD |
| Compact SUV | 350 MAD | 2,100 MAD | about 4,200 MAD | 7,000 MAD |
| Luxury SUV | 900 MAD | 5,500 MAD | about 11,000 MAD | 18,000 MAD |
Model pages can show different rates. For example, the Dacia Logan starts from 280 MAD per day, 1,750 MAD per week and 7,000 MAD per month. Two Logan weeks come to about 3,500 MAD at the listed weekly rate.
Important: these are starting rates. Your real price depends on the car, season and dates. Message us for a written 14-day quote. Rates for stays beyond a week are on our long-term car rental Casablanca page, and you can compare daily prices on cheap car rental Casablanca per day and economy car rental Casablanca.
Fuel: use this simple formula
Fuel cost = (km ÷ 100) × litres per 100 km × price per litre
Example with a diesel Logan:
- Distance: 2,200 km
- Consumption: 4.4 L/100 km → about 97 litres
- Diesel price: about 15 MAD/L (central Casablanca stations were around 14.96–14.99 MAD in early September 2026)
- Estimate: about 1,450 MAD
Pump prices change around the 1st and 16th of each month. Check the price on the day you travel.
Motorway tolls
Tolls are low on this route because many legs use national roads. Published tariffs for a standard car are roughly:
| Section | Approx. toll |
| Casablanca → Rabat | about 25 MAD |
| Rabat → Fes | about 45 MAD |
| Casablanca ↔ Marrakech | about 85–95 MAD one way |
Budget about 150–300 MAD for the whole loop. Keep dirhams in the car, since you should not rely on card payment at toll lanes. Rental prices never include tolls.
Parking, desert nights and other costs
- Parking: small fees at guarded car parks near the medinas of Fes, Chefchaouen and Marrakech.
- Desert camp: camel ride, dinner and transfer are paid to the camp, not to the rental company.
- Extras: child seat, extra driver or CDW upgrade are quoted separately.
Worked example: couple, 14 days, Dacia Logan diesel
| Item | Estimate |
| Rental (2 weeks, listed weekly rate) | about 3,500 MAD |
| Fuel (2,200 km) | about 1,450 MAD |
| Tolls | about 150–300 MAD |
| Parking | about 200–400 MAD |
| Car-related total | about 5,300–5,650 MAD |
This is a planning example, not a quote. It leaves out hotels, food, entry tickets and desert activities. Prices for fuel and parking can change, so use it as a guide.

Casablanca Airport (CMN) or Maarif: Where Should You Pick Up?
Pick up at CMN if you want to start driving right away. Pick up in Maarif if you want a night or two in Casablanca first. Both are free of airport surcharges with us.
| CMN Airport | Maarif office | |
| Best for | Landing and driving on | Staying in Casablanca first |
| How it works | Driver meets you at Terminal 1 arrivals with a name sign | Collect at 84 Rue Ibn Mounir, or ask for hotel delivery |
| Hours | 24/7 | 24/7 support by WhatsApp |
| Booking tip | Message us at least 2 hours before landing | Send dates and pickup area |
CMN sits about 30 km from central Casablanca, roughly 35 minutes by car. A taxi into town costs 200–250 MAD, so a pickup at the airport also saves that fare.
We offer free delivery to hotels in Maarif, Anfa, Ain Diab and Gauthier. See car hire Casablanca with hotel delivery and the car rental Maarif page for details. Prefer French? Our location voiture Casablanca aéroport page covers the same service.
What to check before you drive away
Ten minutes at handover can save you a long argument later.
- Walk around the car and photograph all four sides, wheels, windscreen and odometer.
- Make sure every mark is written on the inspection sheet, not just mentioned.
- Check the fuel level and the fuel policy in your contract.
- Confirm the gearbox, the deposit amount and the mileage terms.
- Save our WhatsApp number: +212 663 707 707.
- Keep the signed contract and insurance papers in the car.
One-Way Car Rental: Casablanca Pickup, Marrakech or Fes Drop-Off
Yes, you can pick up in Casablanca and drop the car in another city. A fixed one-way fee is added to the daily rate and agreed before you collect the car.
| Route | Distance | Drive time | One-way fee |
| Casablanca → Marrakech | 240 km | 2 h 30 | from 350 MAD |
| Casablanca → Rabat | 90 km | 55 min | from 200 MAD |
| Casablanca → Fes | 300 km | 3 h 15 | from 400 MAD |
| Casablanca → Tangier | 340 km | 3 h 30 | from 450 MAD |
| Casablanca → Agadir | 460 km | 4 h 45 | from 500 MAD |
Mileage stays unlimited on one-way rentals, so the distance carries no per-kilometre charge. Drop-off points include Marrakech city and Menara Airport, Fes-Saïss Airport, Tangier Ibn Batouta Airport and Agadir Al Massira Airport.
When one-way is worth it
- Your flight home leaves from Marrakech, Fes, Tangier or Agadir.
- You want to skip a 270 km drive back to Casablanca on your last day.
- You prefer to end the trip relaxed in one city.
When a Casablanca loop is better
- Your flight leaves from CMN.
- You want to add Essaouira or the coast on the last leg.
- The one-way fee plus the transfer costs more than driving back.
If you choose one-way, reorder the route: go north first, then south, and drop the car in Marrakech on day 13 or 14. Full details are on our one way car rental Morocco page and the dedicated one way car rental Casablanca to Marrakech page.
Documents, Deposit, Insurance and Mileage Explained
These are the questions travellers ask most before booking. Here are straight answers.
Documents you need
| Document | Needed? | Notes |
| Driving licence | Yes | Held for at least 1 year |
| Passport or national ID | Yes | Show the original, never leave it as a deposit |
| Bank card | Usually | In the driver’s name, for the deposit hold |
| International Driving Permit | Only for some | Required for non-Latin-script licences, recommended by some agencies |
Minimum age is 21. Drivers aged 21–24 may pay a young-driver surcharge. For the full list by country, read documents needed to rent a car in Morocco.
Security deposit
The deposit depends on the car. For the Dacia Logan it is 8,000 MAD, held on your card (not charged) and released after you return the car undamaged. Other agencies in Casablanca often hold 2,000–5,000 MAD for smaller cars.
Ask for your exact deposit in writing before you pay. We confirm it on WhatsApp when we send your booking.
Insurance
Basic comprehensive insurance is included in the rental rate. You can add a CDW upgrade on request to reduce your excess. This is worth considering for mountain roads and a long trip. Our insurance options for rental cars in Morocco guide explains what basic cover does and does not include.
Always ask these three questions:
- What is my excess if the car is damaged?
- Are tyres, glass and the underside covered?
- What happens on gravel or unpaved roads?
Unlimited mileage
Every rental includes unlimited kilometres, so a 2,000 km loop adds no distance fee. Some platforms cap rentals at 200–250 km per day, so always check. More on our car rental Casablanca with unlimited mileage page.
Payment and fuel
- No advance payment is needed to reserve. You pay at pickup.
- We accept cards and cash in MAD, EUR or USD.
- Your contract states the fuel policy. Follow it to avoid a surcharge.
Driving in Morocco on a Two-Week Trip: What to Expect
Driving in Morocco is manageable if you plan your days. Motorways are modern. City traffic and mountain passes need more care.
Road types
| Road | What it is like |
| A1 (Casablanca–Rabat) and A7 (Casablanca–Marrakech) | Smooth, fast, tolls apply |
| National roads (N9, N10, N13) | Good surface, slower, trucks and villages |
| Mountain passes (Tizi n’Tichka, Dades) | Hairpins, weather changes, take your time |
| Unpaved tracks | Not for rental cars |
Typical limits are 60 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on national roads and 120 km/h on motorways. Follow the signs, because limits change often. Radar and police checks are common, so stop fully when asked and keep your documents handy.
Safety rules that matter
- Avoid night driving outside cities. Animals, pedestrians and unlit vehicles are common.
- Start early on mountain days.
- Watch speed bumps in villages. They are frequent.
- Fill up often on long southern legs.
- Download offline maps and save each hotel address.

Parking by city
| City | What to do |
| Casablanca | Use hotel parking or guarded car parks. Take a taxi to the old medina |
| Rabat | Park outside the Kasbah area and walk |
| Chefchaouen | Use car parks outside the medina walls |
| Fes | Park near Bab Boujloud or ask your riad |
| Marrakech | Use guarded parking near the medina gates |
A small tip to the parking attendant is normal. Keep some coins.
Casablanca driving vs taxis
Casablanca traffic is busy. On your first and last day, a taxi is often easier than driving into the centre. Our getting around Casablanca by car vs taxi guide gives the trade-offs.
Best Time for a Two-Week Morocco Road Trip
There is no perfect month. Each season has trade-offs.
| Season | Pros | Watch out for |
| Spring (Mar–May) | Mild weather, green hills | Busy in school holidays |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Long days, coast is pleasant | Very hot in Fes, Merzouga and the south |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | Warm days, good light | Occasional storms |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Fewer tourists | Cold desert nights, snow or ice on Atlas passes |
Check forecasts and road conditions a few days before you cross Tizi n’Tichka. During Ramadan, expect changed opening hours.

Economy cars start from 150 MAD per day, and weekly rates start from 900 MAD. Two weeks of a Dacia Logan comes to about 3,500 MAD at the listed weekly rate. Fuel, tolls and parking are extra, so ask for a written 14-day quote.
Can I rent a car in Casablanca and drive around all of Morocco?
Yes. Unlimited mileage applies across Morocco. Stay on paved roads and follow the terms in your contract.
Is 14 days enough for a Morocco road trip from Casablanca?
Yes, for a first visit. Choose Rabat, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech, and add Chefchaouen if you accept longer drives. Do not try to see everything.
Can I drive from Casablanca to the Sahara in a normal rental car?
Yes, to Merzouga on paved roads, over two to three days. Park at your guesthouse and go into the dunes with a camp transfer.
Do I need a 4×4 for Merzouga and Erg Chebbi?
No. The roads to Merzouga are paved. Camps arrange their own transfers into the dunes.
Should I rent for all 14 days or only part of the trip?
Rent for 14 days if you want full flexibility. Rent for 8–10 days if you plan to spend several days in Fes or Marrakech and use trains in between.
Is an economy car enough, or do I need an SUV?
An economy car is enough for most couples. Choose a Duster or Arkana for more luggage, higher seating and extra confidence on mountain roads.
Can I pick up at Casablanca Airport and return in Marrakech?
Yes, with a one-way fee from 350 MAD. The fee is fixed and confirmed before pickup.
